Rat InformationRats originated from Central and Southeast Asia, but now they are found in every corner of the world. There are two main rat types: the Roof rat (Rattus rattus), also known as the black rat; and the Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus), also called the brown rat. Where are people there are rats. Rats need three things to survive: food, water and shleter. Rats spread diseases and cause a lot of damage, that's why many people consider them a real pest. Rats carry and spread dysentery, leptospirosis and typhus fever. In Western countries, many people keep domesticated rats as pets. They are also called "fancy rats" and are very different of wild rats.
